New Cork Tops Distinctive Crown Maple BottlesSubmitted by Robb on February 29, 2012 - 4:59pm
Bottles of Crown Maple Syrup now feature a new, synthetic cork specially designed for easier opening and resealing. Credit for the new cork goes to our customers who suggested the idea along with other great feedback we’ve received through our website and Facebook pages.
Some customers told us they experienced trouble reopening our bottles after storing them in the refrigerator (where all pure maple syrup should be stored after opening). In addition to opening more smoothly, the new cork is stronger and shorter to eliminate the potential for breakage that can happen with the original, natural corks.
If you have trouble reopening your Crown Maple Syrup, here are a couple of tips:
Crown Maple Syrup Featured on NBC’s Today ShowSubmitted by Lydia on December 15, 2011 - 6:32pm
It’s been quite an exciting couple of weeks for us here at Crown Maple Farm. First, we were featured on The Martha Stewart Show and this past Monday, it was Woman’s Day Magazine Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Mayhew telling the nation on NBC's Today Show about our pure maple syrup. Pinch me.
Elizabeth called our Dutchess County home “the perfect place weather-wise and climate-wise” for maple syrup and told Ann Curry and the audience about our “100% organic… absolutely delicious” light amber, medium amber and dark amber syrup. She even mentioned how we sustainably manage the farm. She was very kind.

Make These Maple Syrup Recipes Your New Thanksgiving TraditionSubmitted by Lydia on November 23, 2011 - 6:11pm
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday – the weather is usually fairly good and there’s no dealing with gift giving.
Like many of you, we’re headed over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house for a big family Thanksgiving. My parents host the holiday at their home in Pennsylvania – there will be about 20 of us all together. My parents are amazing cooks. We start about 4:00 p.m. and sit around the table and eat all day, finishing with lots of great desserts.
Of course, our meal will feature a lot of delicious dishes made from recipes using pure maple syrup from Crown Maple.
My sister does most of the baking for Thanksgiving; this year she’s making apple streusel and pumpkin pie with Crown Maple Light Amber syrup. The recipes are below in case you’d like to try them, too – who knows, they may become part of your family’s Thanksgiving tradition.

Nor'easter Brings a Foot of October Snow to Crown Maple FarmSubmitted by Robb on October 31, 2011 - 7:02pm
I’m sure you’ve heard by now about the Nor'easter that blew through and buried parts of the mid-Atlantic and New England states under more than two feet of snow – it left millions without power, and we’re no exception here at Crown Maple Farm in Dutchess County, NY where we had a foot of the white stuff. The County has declared a state of emergency, and the governors of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts have done the same.
Things here are fine, though, all things considered, and we hope all of our neighbors are doing ok as well. The good news is the sugarhouse stayed warm due to the building’s insulation and radiant floor heating and now our back-up generator is running. The bad news is the phones and the Internet are down; if you call today you'll probably get our voice mail, but we're checking constantly. We're also still processing orders for our friends looking to buy pure maple syrup through our online store.
Crown Maple Syrup to Appear on The Martha Stewart ShowSubmitted by Lydia on October 20, 2011 - 3:29pm
I had a great day yesterday. My sister Jessica and I were invited to the set of The Martha Stewart Show to watch a taping of her Nov. 30th episode that, among other things, featured Crown Maple Syrup! For a new company like ours, this was a very big deal.
The show’s producers were kind enough to seat us in the front row where we had a great view of how they put the show together. The set was amazing, with every inch decked out in a rich fall theme with colors and props. Not a detail was missing as you might expect from anything Martha touches.
I told Robb after the taping that I missed my calling in life. I would love to have a set like that to decorate and cook in! Although I don’t think I’d ever want to actually be on camera…
Goodnight, Irene: All is Well in the SugarbushSubmitted by Robb on August 30, 2011 - 8:53am
Whew! As Hurricane Irene winds its way down and into Canada, we’re all breathing a sigh of relief at Crown Maple Farm.
We spent Friday afternoon preparing for the worst; we:
- Removed the evaporator steam stacks,
- Moved all loose material into the Sugar House,
- Re-shored all existing silt fences, and
- Improved some existing erosion control measures.
With wind guests exceeding 60 mph, Irene made quite an impression. But in the end, we were spared any real damage or injuries. We do have a number of limbs down -- a little 'nature's pruning' -- but nothing major. We also had lots of water due to record rainfalls (more than 10 inches at nearby Hyde Park), but only experienced flooding of construction trenches, which is no problem at all. And although our power is out, it should be back on very soon. We’ve set up shop in Tamar’s family’s summer home just down the road; Tamar is in charge of Crown Maple’s Operations & Administration.
Crown Maple Syrup World Festival Tour ContinuesSubmitted by Kaylee on August 5, 2011 - 12:33pm
This past Saturday my dad (Ken Travis), my brother Dylan and I enjoyed a great day at the Friend of the Farmer Festival located in Copake, NY. The festival was held on the grounds of the beautiful Copake Country Club and food lovers from all over the region came to support the local farmers, growers, and food producers.
The Crown Maple booth was continually surrounded by people eager to sample our pure maple syrup. Most were curious as to why there were three varieties, light amber, medium amber, and dark amber. Some of them were skeptical that there was an actual contrast in taste between the three. After savoring each kind, however, they were shocked at how distinctly different the flavor notes were.
