Overnight Baked French Toast

Delicious baked casserole for brunch.
Up to 12 slices Challah (egg bread)
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
1-2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4-1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4-1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup packed brown sugar
8-10 tablespoons softened butter
6 tablespoons maple syrup
Layer bread in a buttered 9x13 baking pan. In a blender combine eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg & salt and blend well. Slowly pour egg mixture over bread slices & press bread down so all the bread becomes soaked with egg mixture. Cover and refrigerate over night. Preheat oven to 350. In a small bowl combine sugar, butter and syrup. Spread evenly over bread slices. You may need to make more of the topping -- be generous and make sure all the bread is covered with topping. I also pour more maple syrup over it all. Bake until knife inserted in the center comes out clean -- about one hour. Let stand 15 minutes. Serve with more maple syrup and powdered sugar. Enjoy!
