There is a new maple sap tapping and syrup production operation in Dover Plains. The plant, at 47 McCourt Road, will produce maple syrup under the Crown Maple label, which will be available in stores in early June.
The building has been under construction since July. This season, about 500,000 gallons of sap was collected and boiled to make about 7,000 gallons of syrup, which is ready to be bottled. Crown Maple is being marketed to gourmet and speciality shops plus high-end restaurants in the New York metropolitan area.
